this was a quick sketch of a frog...my sons had some friends over and they wanted to have some drawing time, so this frog was done under the art direction of a couple 4 and 5 year olds...

Character Design

So monday I started a character design course with Stephen Silver. Every week there is a lecture and an assignment...the first week (this week) was to design a character (loose sketch) based on the provided description...the description was long so i won't put it all here, but I will post the resulting sketch...

That can't be a lion

So I started drawing and thought, let's go for a shady little lion...a little something that looks a little crafty or something...you know, he's the lion sitting on a milk crate, trying to get you to find the marble under the cup...well, that was the intention...I showed my wife and she said, he looks drunk...I showed my son and he said "Daddy, that can't be a lion, lions have manes, he has no mane"...touche five year old...I tried to explain he was wearing a beanie...he wasn't buying it...all in all I will call this mission not accomplished...

Drawing...it's for the birds

Happy after lunch! Today was bird day...It didn't turn out as goofy as I was going for, but hey it's a happy bird, and it's just a sketch...I think I'll keep working on it...maybe this guy will become the rest of the bird sitting on the other guy's head...who knows...

Same bat time...

This is a bat that I started at lunch, to eventually go in to a scene with another character...just trying to work out his personality a little...

A quick little Watercolor

This one also started out as a lunch time sketch, then I finished it up late that night...the next day i decided I was pretty happy with the sketch, so i just threw a quick layer of watercolor over it, I like it.

I think I am going to turn this one in to a more detailed watercolor. Stay tuned, I'll post it when its done.

Adding a little color to this page

So this started out as a lunchtime sketch, and I ended up liking his shape and mood, so i decided to add a little bit of color to it...its just filed in with a quick layer of colored pencil, but it's nice to have a little color on the page sometimes...

So today I just started drawing...and I am not exactly sure what this is...apparently in between drawing, people watching, and stuffing a cheeseburger down my throat I somehow got off track...I think it started out as some kind of a dog, the ears ended up a little funky though, they kind of look like horns to me...anyway, I am not sure what it is...you decide

Today while I was drawing and eating lunch I couldn't help but notice this guy sitting in front of me...he had pretty much every page of the paper open, rolled, folded, wadded, it looked like he was trying to read every page at once...I guess sometimes you just cant get enough current events...

A Place to start posting

For the past couple of months I have been spending everyday at lunch sketching. My wife suggested I start posting them somewhere...this, I suppose, will be that somewhere.

So from time to time I will be posting some of my latest sketches, roughs, maybe even a few full finished pieces...thats all for now...
